Good Day (Post 799!)

There was quite a bit of new snow this morning and control work had some big results.

Debris came all the way down to Silvertip flats and the Weir (click to enlarge).
Matt M. came all the way up from MN to be on the Alyeska lift crew this winter.
I had the chance to ride the lifts with several good friends today. Foz and I on chair 6.

Solstice Hike

End of Weekend Ops - Best May Ever?

The Events team is prepping the mountain for summer freestyle camp.

We are making a half pipe on the upper mountain.
On Monday afternoon, we pulled the chairs offline, but left 4 on to cycle stragglers and patrol back up.
On the lower mountain, you can see the Finnland Magic Carpet was dismantled and the area was filled. This will bring the carpet closer to the ground and will require less snowmaking in the immediate vicinity.

Jesse (tram crew) digs out a trench on the North Face, under car 2, so it won't drag in the snow with a full load. With 845" for the season, we are way above the average of 630"!

Snow safety closed the center ridge sign line this afternoon, due to increasing snow load and avalanche danger.

Mellow Weekend

Riding chair 6 to go to the top of 1 with some of the night crew (Sam, Jeremy & Molly) Saturday afternoon.

It was a busy day on Tanaka today. You can see the slide on Max's from a few days ago in the background.

Avalanche on Max's Mountain

From the loop in the Daylodge parking lot; the lot itself is closed, as was the whole mountain, in case another, larger avalanche comes down.

I heard this was a natural slide that occurred overnight, but I'll find out more details and get back to you.

Also, Alyeska is flying a job for a Tram/ Lift Electrician, level 1.

3 FEET OF SNOW

at midway since yesterday! The only lift that will be open today is the Bear Cub Quad (chair 3). This is due to snow safety work. Hopefully the upper mountain will open soon.

Labor Day Fun

There were 3 bears on the North face this morning.
The weather was great today and yesterday; hoping for more of the same tomorrow.

Flying, Driving & Grounded

The paragliders have been making lots of flights lately with all this good weather!

Peter brought some loads of gravel to the top of the tram. This will be used for the new bomb tram going in on Mighty Mite (for avalanche control on the North face).

Springtime Wander

Looking at Alyeska from the Gird to Bird path.  There is not much snow left.

The trains are running regularly these days.  Online Train Specials
The newest, most high tech train in Alaska, The Chugach Explorer.
This sign is a mile and a half from the Alyeska highway in the Gird to Bird path.  It is actually pretty interesting (click it to enlarge, if you want to read it).
The lupine is already blooming.
Sadly, there will be no weekend skiing the next two days, as was the plan, due to lack of snow.

Getting it done
